Every morning I squeeze a quarter to one half of an organic lemon in a 16 ounce glass of filtered water (room temperature, warm or hot) and sip it down. While sleeping, our body is on a fast as it repairs and detoxifies. Upon waking, it is in a mild state of dehydration. By drinking lemon water upon rising, you are re-hydrating and re-energizing your body systems allowing you to shift into an enhanced state of health. Read on for the benefits of this morning ritual.

The Benefits of Lemon Water

Detoxification: Lemon juice is a great cleanser and purifier of the blood, liver and kidneys acting as a tonic washing toxins and bacteria out of the body. It stimulates the bowel to eliminate accumulated waste if it is taken in the morning before anything else. Though thought to be acidic, lemon juice produces an alkalizing effect on the body furthering the detoxification processes. Disease states can only occur when the body pH is acidic.

Digestive Issues: Lemon water helps the digestive system to eliminate waste products easier. Many digestion issues such as heartburn, bloating, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, and constipation are relieved by warm/hot water with lemon or apple cider vinegar (ACV). If constipation is an issue for you, try taking 400-1200mg of magnesium at bedtime. Hydrate well throughout the day as the magnesium draws water into the colon as you sleep. Upon rising, drink 16-32oz of warm lemon water to rehydrate your body and signal your colon to eliminate. Lemon juice may sooth common cold symptoms such as sore throat, tonsillitis and headaches.  Because of its high Vitamin C content, lemon juice is used to prevent and treat many infections and hasten wound healing. It is a natural antihistamine and will diminish allergies and asthma symptoms. Lemon water contains natural bioflavonoids, niacin and thiamin to assist in preventing such conditions as diphtheria, rheumatism, and osteoarthritis.

Promotes Clear Skin: Inner health is revealed on the surface of your skin. Toxins trapped in the colon ultimately find their way to other body parts as well as the skin.
